Station details change, and chargers can be broken or busy. Check the network's app before you go.
Before you set off in a rental EV
- Ask which plug your car uses. In North America it's usually NACS (the Tesla plug, also called J3400) or CCS1; some older cars like the Nissan Leaf use CHAdeMO. Filter the map by your car's plug.
- Many Tesla Superchargers say "Tesla only". Check the hours line in each station's details, and confirm in the network's app whether other brands can charge and whether you need an adapter.
- Fast chargers are scarce in national parks and remote areas. Charge up in the last town before a park or a desert crossing, and allow time for a queue.
- Most fast chargers need the network's app with a card on file, and foreign cards sometimes fail. Set up your accounts before you leave home.
